Cat in College C3

Chapter 3: I Forgot the Cat Scratching Post

Translated by Lime

I left a note about clans/houses/departments at the end of last chapter if you get confused.

Also: Senior brothers and sisters = upperclassmen (third and fourth-years). Freshmen = first-years/newcomers.

Classmates around them began to turn their heads and partook in the heated exchange: “You only did one thousand sets? I started practicing ever since I was a child. This time around, the exam was just too f*cking hard. It went from political alliances to outer space. I even had to reference quantum mechanics to somehow fill up the page. After I finished the exam, I had nightmares about it at night.”

“Heh, my score was pretty high, but I applied for the wrong department. I wanted to get into the Department of Control; I was scared that my score would be too low so I applied for the Department of Spells. When I received my score, I was notified that I was directly accepted. Everything that I did was useless and now I don’t know if we are allowed to change majors.”

“What are you guys complaining about? We demons have to go through a background check, a background check! My childhood sweetheart took the exam with me and received a passing score. During the background check, they found out that her distant relative, her second uncle, had a criminal record so she was immediately rejected. That’s truly miserable, you guys should be thankful! Does that make any sense!”

“Actually, the Witch race has it the best because they are a minority. School policy lowered the passing score by 20 percent for them. I was tempted to immigrate and change my race!”

“Yo! Have you seen the school map yet? I was so excited that I couldn’t sleep yesterday and looked at it for the entire night. I almost went crazy, is this really a school map? They tried to make a maze, not a school!”

“…The school has a military base. During wartime, they can promptly respond. Obviously, the school’s defense system needs to be high, so the school is complicated to navigate. Not to mention, many arbitrary departments have been added to the school in recent years. I am from the Demon Clan, and I’m a returning student.”

(T/N: ‘妖’ = Demon/goblin/witch/monster/etc., since I have stuck with demon so far, I will continue to use the term, but keep in mind that there are other interpretations of this word and it may reference supernatural beings in general, not just demons.)

“When we disembark from the plane, your senior brothers and sisters will come to pick you up. A notice was sent in the group chat.”

The conversation began to separate into groups, and every once in a while, the small white kitty would interject and meow a few words. The group of canines ran over, and the flight attendants had to intervene, telling the students to be quiet.

This plane was not any ordinary plane, the students were not ordinary students, and the flight crew were not an ordinary flight crew.

Beautiful women dressed in uniforms reminded the students of actions to take after exiting the plane. The students had seen the notice in the group chat earlier and were drowsy listening to them. They were not bold enough to interrupt their seniors, and had no choice but to obediently listen.

Qi Xiaohan hugged her cat bag and tried to look outside the window.

This was her first time on an airplane!

Zhou Mingyu, who was sitting next to the window, noticed the kitty trying to look outside. When the flight attendants weren’t paying attention, he grabbed the cat, her hind paws stepping on his legs. With her front two paws, she leaned on the window and excitedly stared out, watching the plane cut through clouds. They passed through a cloud, and the silver layers peeled away one by one. At last, the faint outline of the university could be seen.

Above the school were what appeared to be several floating islands. When they neared it was apparent that they were modern buildings, and the plane began to descend.

(T/N: The ‘floating islands’ are floating buildings/towers, which are ‘modern’ for this time period.)

From a brochure, Qi Xiaohan was able to see the entirety of the school, almost as large as a small city. She could see a prosperous market street, and on the brochure, a 3-D model was included, making the school seem grand and magnificent.

Qi Xiaohan had never been to a place like this, and inevitably encountered many unfamiliarities.

Once the plane landed, Qi Xiaohan retrieved her luggage, and used spiritual power to propel the luggage cart. She had jumped on top of the cart and was searching for the designated place that she needed to report to.

Shortly, the kitty received a text from her house: the third and fourth-years were temporarily reassigned, and would not be able to guide the new students to their building. They could either wait for their seniors to come pick them up or use the map to navigate to their destination. In no circumstance could they deviate from the route.

The kitty’s ears twitched and she opened up the Fire Spirit House group chat 1. The group of over 1,000 people was rowdy. Messages were quickly being sent and flew by.

—18-Lu Ming: “I heard that the Department of Medicine blew up? Half of the floating tower collapsed?”

(T/N: Lu Ming = Deer cry, not sure if it’s their username or actual name. Medicine refers to Chinese medicine, think pills masters and stuff.)

—17-I Wish to Go with the Wind: “The house has officially notified us. The students that were originally supposed to report to the Department of Medicine and students of the Sword Sect who were sharing the first floor of the building are temporarily reporting to the Cat Clan instead. It’s possible that the building collapsed.”

—18-I am a King: “[Image] [Image] The situation is dire, the Ministry of Military Defense has been alerted, and they have sent people over to investigate.”

—17-jiajia: “What happened, our professor didn’t even look outside and was easy going. He told us that every few years, there are accidents in the Department of Medicine building. Keep calm everyone.”

—17-Small Monster: “F*ck! F*ck being calm! ! I’m currently at the scene, can you feel it! After it shook, I almost went to heaven! ! ! !”

—16-I am Xiao Er: “That’s terrible, where are you now? Older brother can come and dig you up.”

—17-Small Monster: “No thanks *sweat* I climbed out by myself, thanks senior brother.”

—19-Sword Sect-Zong Yu: “Senior brothers and sisters, which one is the Cat Clan? I can’t find it on the map, but aren’t we all part of the Fire Spirit House? Sword Sect newbie is confused qaq”

—18-Old Newbie: “pattinghead.jpg The Cat Clan is a general term to refer to all feline students. Because of common living habits, they live in the same area. If you look at the map, the dotted line signifies the Cat Clan territory. As for the official building, it is the Bowen Building, travel according to the map.”

—17-Stay Away From the Slag Lion 【Admin】: “@Everyone, a major explosion has occurred at the floating tower of the Department of Medicine. The accident has led to the inability for freshmen to report as per schedule. Newcomers can stay behind and wait or strictly follow the path designated by the school. The marked paths are safe, but newcomers should be alert. Third and fourth-years need to report to the floating tower of the Department of Medicine immediately. Second-years need to guide the way for the newcomers. There should be at least one person at each office. Contact Lu Sha: 187xxxxxxx.”

—18-Sweets Monster: “Ahhhhhhhh! I don’t want to get up from my bed! !”

—17-Stay Away From the Slag Lion【Admin】: “Hurry and get up, the second-year patrol route has already been arranged. The other houses have started to take action, don’t waste any time.”

—18-Sweets Monster: “Received.”

—18-Old Newbie: “Received.”

……

Zhou Mingyu was standing beside Qi Xiaohan, studying the map as he was speaking to the kitty: “Have your senior brothers and sisters arrived yet? Do you want to report to the location with me?”

Small kitty: “Did your House not notify you yet? The upperclassmen can’t come anymore. Apparently, there was an explosion at the Fire Spirit House’s Department of Medicine building and all the upperclassmen had to go help. Second-years are in charge of leading the way for us freshmen. In other words, we have to find our House Building by ourselves.”

Zhou Mingyu: “Are you serious?!”

Zhou Mingyu fished out his phone from inside his pocket and was dumbstruck after reading the notice: “Damn, your House’s Department of Medicine is so awesome, randomly exploding whenever. Our house’s group chat is blowing up and discussing what will happen to your house.”

The Department of Medicine was a special department of the Fire Spirit House and other Houses could choose to study there, but they had to go to the Fire Spirit House to take the classes. They were envious of the generous funding given to the Department of Medicine.

Qi Xiaohan looked at the map and located the Bowen Building. In the group chat, a safe route was sent and if she followed it, there should be no problems.

Zhou Mingyu was from the Golden Spirit House because he was studying Puppet Automation but would sometimes study with the Fire Spirit House’s Department of Control to take the Controlling Puppets Class. So, the official buildings of the two houses were somewhat close together.

“I’m going to the Ningyuan Building and you’re going to the Bowen Building. They’re only separated by a street and aren’t far away. Let’s go together so it’s a bit safer,” Zhou Mingyu proposed.

Qi Xiaohan was also thinking this and agreed, nodding her head.

She wanted to politely ask if the Siamese cat from before wanted to join them, but the cat glanced at her and before she could speak, walked over. It lowered its head and stared at the white kitty, silently lifting its paw and poking Qi Xiaohan’s head. Afterwards, it pulled its plain luggage and left, swaying its tail.

It really was an extremely cold cat.

Cats usually don’t like to be around each other, so this cat’s reaction was not unexpected.

Zhou Mingyu’s friend was from the same house as him and Qi Xiaohan left with the two humans to report to her building.

Zhou Mingyu: “Uh, Xiao Han, why do you have so much luggage as such a small kitty? You even had to use a luggage cart, don’t you think you brought too much?”

Zhou Mingyu saw that Qi Xiaohan had brought twice his luggage, and he blurted out his thoughts.

The white kitty who was sitting on the luggage cart and controlling the luggage cart heard his curious tone of voice and replied, “This isn’t much at all, I think it’s pretty reasonable.”

Zhou Mingyu thought for a bit. It was true, she hadn’t brought her cat scratching post.

What a strange little cat.

Since there’s quite a bit of dialogue in these chapters (the next few are pretty short), I will be releasing additional chapters every week. Thanks for reading!
