Chapter 11: Red-Braised Pork

As the various items flew into the refrigerator, Qi Xiaohan meowed.

One of the downsides of using this spell was that the enchanted items were unintelligent and could only perform basic tasks. For example, the slices of meat and meatballs were not able to neatly arrange themselves inside the refrigerator according to the kitty’s wishes.

The two roommates glanced at the stuffed freezer and then at the dejected kitty. Comforting her, they spoke:

“It’s okay, Xiaohan. You already impressed us. Even we are not able to do this.”

The lynx spoke, followed by the frantic nodding of the snow leopard.

However, the snow leopard stared at the suitcase. “Usually, we would just be able to simply carry it.”

The strength of the big cats were naturally incomparable to the small kitty.

The little kitty looked down at her own body: “…Miaowow.”

The spells that Qi Xiaohan had chanted were only able to move items that weighed less than herself.

She felt really bad.

Well, there was still another benefit of using spells: she could vaguely alter the future sometimes.

When Qi Xiaohan was little and Qi Ning was around the age of thirteen to fourteen, the latter hoped to purchase the album of her favorite artist. As for the small kitty, she wished for a laser pointer that could form the shapes of small animals. But, both the human and cat had no pocket money.

So, the little kitty secretly meowed a spell at Ning Ning to let her become rich by coincidence. This way, Ning Ning could buy her album and buy a laser pointer.

The spell soon came to fruition. Qi Ning bought a lottery ticket and won two hundred yuan. At that time, one album cost sixty yuan. After buying the album, Qi Ning was pestered and finally dragged by her cat to a small shop to buy the magical laser pointer.

Like this, the spell slightly altered the future course of events. Of course, the changes were mostly unimportant. To prevent serious harm or injury, the kitty didn’t use the spell very often. On a day-to-day basis, Qi Xiaohan used her spells to transport items and it was much more convenient than using the regular spiritual spells.

(T/N: The ‘spell’ that Qi Xiaohan uses is called “言灵” or spells that she chants out loud. There are other ‘spells’, but judging from reactions of people around her, her spells are not commonly used. I haven’t decided if I should use the term “spell” for others because I have not seen much elaboration or explanation on it by the author yet. For example, here, the ‘spiritual spells’ is actually spiritual techniques/method/??)

The three cats tidied up their dorm room. Qi Xiaohan pulled out her cat bed and arranged it on top of the bed. After staring at it with evident happiness, she hopped off the bed.

“My senior brother is still waiting for me downstiars. I need to hurry down, let’s eat hot pot together for dinner!”

The two big cats amicably nodded.

“In a bit, our seniors are also going to escort us there. Make sure you bring your room key; we won’t be able to let you in later.”

The kitty quickly ran out and meowed, the sound echoing throughout the corridor.

Qi Xiaohan bounded down the stairs. Looking in each direction, she didn’t see her senior brother. Just when she was about to call him on her phone, she saw a figure walking over holding a small cup of ice cream.

“Are you ready to go?”

Yan Chong asked with a smile.

The kitty meowed. Suddenly, Yan Chong knelt down and offered her the ice cream.

“Today’s weather is pretty hot. After you finish, we can go to the dining hall.”

Qi Xiaohan didn’t expect her senior brother to be this meticulous and happily meowed at him. Then, she lowered her head and lapped the ice cream.

Looking at the tiny kitty, Yan Chong sighed.

The kitty was burying her head inside the cup, making her appear even smaller.

He was afraid that she would have a hard time surviving military training.

Qi Xiaohan set the cup in a comfortable location and enchanted it so she could conveniently lap it up while walking.

She was oblivious to the thoughts of the demon in front of her and slowly licked the ice cream while gazing around her.

“Your dormitory building and the immediate area around it is part of the Cat Clan’s territory. The Cat Clan refers to an area of land that was arranged for students of the same species. It also prevents territorial disputes. There are other designated areas, such as the Wolf Clan, the Bird Clan, etc. Don’t wander around on other clans’ territories on a regular day. Some students are very territorial and it is easy for a fight to arise between them and people of a different species.”

Yan Chong pointed to the dorms as he talked to the kitty.

Recalling the incident where she hung from the black wolf’s mouth, Qi Xiaohan’s ears trembled.

“The educational buildings are quite far from here so you probably use the campus transportation service. Still, I recommend that you prepare to leave early.” Yan Chong gestured to the transport station in front of them: “Otherwise, it will be very crowded.”

Yan Chong’s eyes lingered on the small kitty again. Secretly, he thought: such a small cat could cram into a corner without being too uncomfortable.

Qi Xiaohan glanced at the station and noted it’s position.

“On campus, we are not allowed to fly at will. After you have mastered the skill of flight, you need to apply for a permit. Without one, you can get in serious trouble.”

The kitty nodded.

As Yan Chong led Qi Xiaohan to the dining hall, he would stop at important locations and point them out to her. Finally, they reached the dining hall. “We’re slightly late for lunch, but it’s fine. The dining hall closes at 12 A.M. and food is offered throughout the day. However, the taste is only so-so. If you don’t like it, there are always other restaurants scattered all over campus.”

At this point, Qi Xiaohan had finished her ice cream. Holding it in her mouth, she flung it inside a trash can before following Yan Chong into the dining hall.

There were still plenty of people inside the dining hall. The first-years and second-years who were unable to transform sat together with the third-years who could transform. The dining hall was divided into sections. Most of the first-years whose original form were on the larger side sat on the second floor.

(T/N: Transform = take a human appearance.)

Shocked by the wide and open seating area, Qi Xiaohan meowed.

“What do you want to eat?”

Yan Chong asked.

Without hesitation, Qi Xiaohan blurted: “Meat!”

Yan Chong laughed: “What kind of meat? How does ribs sound? I’ve always eaten ribs from this one place; it tastes delicious.” As he spoke, he led the kitty over to a specific window to order.

Qi Xiaohan followed him, dexterously weaving between people.

In the line, Qi Xiaohan pulled out her campus card from inside her backpack and held it in her mouth.

Yan Chong had gone to another area to buy drinks, leaving Qi Xiaohan by herself in the line.

When it was her turn to order, Qi Xiaohan set the card down and loudly meowed at the server: “Auntie, I’ll have braised pork ribs!”

Auntie: “That’ll be seven yuan.”

Soon, a plate of red braised pork was placed in front of the window and the Auntie began helping the next student in line.

The kitty tilted her head all the way up and stared at the distant plate of red braised pork. Then, she glanced at the card reader next to it and meowed.

Qi Xiaohan gripped her card in her mouth and retreated a few steps. Jumping up, she brushed the card against the reader and it successfully scanned.

Once she returned to the ground, she helplessly looked at the plate of food.

“Miaow—”
