Chapter 6: Riding a Tiger

The moment the powerful tiger glanced over, a thick cultivator’s aura with a heavy murderous intent swept over them.

The black wolf retreated and lowered his head; the pressure had caused his blood to curdle.

He had not anticipated for this white tiger to be in this area today, he had been way too careless.

Taking note of the little white kitty dangling in the wolf’s mouth, the white tiger suppressed his aura. Decisively, he dealt the killing blow to the beast and stalked over to the black wolf, step by step.

On part of his white fur, there was a large bloodstain, causing him to appear like a majestic god that had just come out of battle. He opened his mouth and faced Qi Xiaohan, his deep and pleasant voice speaking:

“Spirit Control Class 2’s Qi Xiaohan?”

The small kitty was momentarily shocked and then eagerly nodded, “That’s me!”

At first sight, she obviously knew that this was her senior brother from the Cat Clan, but did not expect him to be this domineering.

His bold advancement resulted in the black wolf retreating yet another step, intimidated. Accidentally, he did not control his strength and bit down on the white kitty.

The kitty screeched, her pitch rising as she struggled to be released.

The white tiger’s pupils dilated as he heard her squeals and shot a cold glare at the black wolf.

“You’re still not putting the cat down?”

The white kitty was a small furry lump hanging from the black wolf’s mouth. As the tiger watched, he felt a sense of pity.

After all, this was the kitty’s first day at school, and she was already being bullied to the point where she was too afraid to resist. Only when she saw her senior brother from the same house did she dare voice her terror.

The black wolf paused and tentatively placed the white cat on the ground. He couldn’t help but nervously peer down at her neck.

The kitty staggered and shook her fur like a drill. Before she had time to collect her bearings, the large tiger reached out a furry paw and swept her behind him. With a gentle pat, he seemed to be comforting her.

“If I weren’t stationed here, would you have bitten the Cat House’s first-year and ran around the entire campus? Lei Yuan, is this something you should be doing?”

Facing the black wolf, the large tiger sharply questioned him.

The black wolf tensed up and was reluctant to answer, staying silent. The tension between the two was almost tangible.

Just when the white cat was about to speak up, several wolves behind the black wolf impatiently interrupted: “Senior brother, our Boss was originally on duty. It was this cat who burnt an evil mermaid spirit, and we were bringing her to document the events.”

“Is it dead?” Lang Chen deliberately peered behind the wolves, at the sack where the mermaid was contained.

Wolves: “Not yet…”

If the evil spirit had died, there was no need for the kitty to file the incident. It would have been fine if they only brought back the dead spirit to the Military Division, but their Boss suddenly demanded that the cat follow for some unknown reason. The wolves did not dispute his decision since the evil spirit really was beaten to an inch of their life by the cat. Bringing her along could be said to be complying with the rules.

The conflict between the Wolf Clan and the Cat Clan had been ongoing for a while already and first-years were frequently dragged into the mess. Who could have known that Lang Chen was coincidentally killing monsters in the Shadow Forest?

Lang Chen was a direct descendant of the mythical White Tiger. He was widely known and respected for his pure spiritual power and might. In his second-year, he entered Xunhai’s Military Division and steadily climbed up the ranks. Now, he was on the verge of becoming the President of the Student Council.

(T/N: ‘灵脉’ does not exactly translate to ‘spiritual power’ but it is along the lines. It is a term seen in cultivation novels and can mean a number of different things.)

Xunhai Union’s Student Council was a student-run organization that monitored the governing body and possessed immense authority. Within the school, they were in charge of student life and outside of the school, they defended the rights of their students.

The current president of the Student Council was a tortoise whose disposition was mellow and was easy to approach. Under his term, mistakes were common.

(T/N: The ‘赑屃’ = a divine beast whose appearance is similar to a tortoise, but is actually an ancient Chinese mythical beast.)

But ever since Lang Chen rose in position, Lei Li decisively improved many regulations of the student council all at once, receiving widespread approval. His previous nonchalant and lazy attitude had completely vanished, changing to one of a tyrant.

Upon being told that it had not burned to death yet, Lang Chen lifted his paw. With one smack, he sent the mermaid flying into several trees which subsequently broke. No doubt, the mermaid was thoroughly dead.

“Now it’s fine. Go report.” Lang Chen stoically commanded them.

The several wolves looked at each other in dismay,

Well, that was fine too.

Lang Chen had killed so many evil spirits and beasts anyways, so one more would not matter. The number of spirits documented would be correct either way.

Although the Wolf Clan contested the Cat Clan’s authority in the Student Council, the white tiger Lang Chen was more than enough to suppress them alone. There was no one on the level of Lang Chen in the Wolf Clan, so they had to yield to the Cat Clan every time.

The black wolf glared at the white tiger and left with his wolf pack.

…

Stepping out from behind the tiger after watching the wolves leave, Qi Xiaohan meowed. Suddenly, the white tiger lowered his head to examine her. Once he confirmed that she had not been injured, he spoke:

“If you ever encounter danger, immediately call your senior brothers and sisters. They will come to help you. You should never be taken away by being held in someone’s mouth again.”

He felt as though the kitty had been bullied after being forced to travel across an entire campus hanging from a wolf’s mouth; she was such a small kitty too.

She gazed up at him, the huge tiger looming in front of her. Uncertain, she asked, “Senior brother, have we met before?”

How was he able to recognize who she was?

Lang Chen: “I glanced over the first-year roster list. You were the only white cat.”

No wonder, her fur was quite a conspicuous color.

The kitty nodded her head.

Lang Chen stared at what appeared to be a pattern of flames on the kitty’s forehead and thought of something his friend had told him in a joking manner: in the past lives of kitties who had such a marking on their forehead, they probably had been small, white tigers.

Lang Chen’s eyes softened. Just as he moved, he felt a sharp pain slicing down his back.

His wound from before had not healed yet.

The white tiger grunted and inhaled deeply.

Blatantly gawking at his wound, the kitty stood motionless, her round eyes filled with hesitation.

His snow-white fur had been stained with dirt and blood, unlike the other clean and tidy students she had encountered. A cold glare was seen within his eyes, and the bloodstain on his cheek only made him seem like a fierce and exotic beauty.

Honestly, he was a very dashing tiger.

Students usually wore their school badge as a necklace, but senior brother Lang Chen fashioned his golden badge into an earring, wearing it on his right ear. This gave viewers an indescribable sort of strange feeling.

“Where is your luggage?”

Qi Xiaohan only now realized, the black wolf had left her luggage behind at the site of the fight.

The white tiger sized her up: “I’ll give you a ride. Coincidentally, I have some business at the office building nearby.”

Meowing her approval, Lang Chen bit down on the back of her neck and with a flick of his mouth, the small kitty landed on his wide back.

“Hang on tight,” the tiger growled. With a powerful leap, it seemed as though the space was moving around them.

Qi Xiaohan lied stiffly on his back, her four claws tightly grasping at her senior brother’s fur. When she finally adapted to the odd sensation, she gazed at the rapidly changing scenery around her with excitement.

She, a little kitty, has succeeded in life!

Today, she was even riding on a tiger!

Qi Xiaohan had only seen tigers from afar, either on the TV or when Ning Ning brought her to the zoo. This was her first time encountering a tiger close-up, and she even was riding on his back.

Once they arrived, she was going to blow up her family’s Wechat group chat with more than a hundred messages!

She was super, super, excited!

The little white kitty tightly closed her mouth, so her cheers of excitement would not leak out. Instead, she received a mouthful of wind.

School is starting soon for me, and I will be releasing one chapter per week for now. I want to use these few weeks to stockpile chapters for both my projects so I will have a consistent release schedule once I start getting busy again. Thanks for your understanding!
